The Minnesota Twins have picked former bench coach Derek Shelton, who managed the Pittsburgh Pirates for five-plus years, as their new manager.

The Twins made a formal announcement on Thursday and scheduled an introductory news conference for Shelton on Tuesday.

With the under-funded pirates, Shelton never finished higher than fourth place in the NL Central.

The Minnesota Wild lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins Thursday night, ending the game with a score of 1-4, continuing their five-game losing streak.

Kirill Kaprizov had the lone goal for Minnesota and Filip Gustavsson made 30 saves.

St. Thomas men’s basketball starts the new season Monday, Nov. 3, at 9 p.m. Central Time in Moraga Calif.

They will be facing off against Saint Mary’s, a long-standing mid-major power, for the first time ever. This will also mark the first time the Tommies have played an opponent from the West Coast Conference.
