As a news organization, The Crest generally do not agree to requests to remove published materials from our website. Our published content is a matter of public record and a historic archive. Changing previously published material alters the record and undermines our credibility and journalistic integrity.
There can be exceptions, such as when there is a compelling legal justification, or when personal safety is at stake. Therefore, The Crest will accept and consider requests to remove old content but will only remove content in extremely rare cases.
The Crest will consider each request individually and, if warranted, take steps to update the story and protect the privacy of the individual. These steps may include republishing the story with new information, publishing a correction, or hiding the story from Google searches. We may also offer alternative remedies for the concerns.
All final decisions will be under The Crest’s editorial discretion.
If you hope to submit an unpublish request, please reach out to thecrest@stthomas.edu.
