A man opened fire on a church in Michigan and set it ablaze during Sunday service before being fatally shot by police. At least four people were killed and eight wounded as authorities continue to search the wreckage for more victims.

The shooter, identified by police as 40-year-old ex-marine Thomas Sanford, crashed a pickup truck into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, near Flint, Michigan. FBI special agent Ruben Coleman says they are investigating it as an “act of targeted violence.” This shooting comes exactly one month after the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis.

The U.S. government is heading towards a shutdown if funding legislation isn’t passed by Congress and signed by the President before Wednesday.

Democratic and Republican congressional leaders meet with Trump in the White House today for negotiations. Democrats have refused to vote on Republican-backed legislation to keep government funding mostly at current levels, pushing for legislation to extend health care benefits.

University of St. Thomas students and staff mistakenly received an email alert on Friday night ordering a lockdown for the St. Paul campus due to a shooting at the 700 block of Hennepin Avenue near the downtown Minneapolis campus. Three men were shot and no arrests have been made, according to police.

The alert was later clarified to be for the Minneapolis campus only. The mix-up comes as St. Thomas transitioned to a new alert system, SafeZone by CriticalArc.
