The top official at the U.S. Postal Service has said the agency has stopped work on developing a controversial computer system that was central to President Donald Trump’s effort to limit mail voting after the Supreme Court rejected his executive order this week.
Friday marks the start of early voting in the midterm elections in Virginia. Voters in a handful of other states, including Idaho, Minnesota and South Dakota, can now cast absentee ballots in person.
The man who sprayed vinegar at Democratic U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar during a Minneapolis town hall was sentenced Thursday to 14 months in prison after reaching a deal with prosecutors.
The sentencing of 56-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak came nearly eight months after the Jan. 27 assault. Kazmierczak was also sentenced to three years of supervised release, which includes no contact with Omar.
The Senate voted twice this week to move forward on legislation to overhaul the rules and financing around college sports. It’s an effort to put guardrails around skyrocketing spending, prevent constant legal battles and restore order to what the bill’s supporters say is “chaos” in athletic programs.
More than 70 senators are already backing the bill, which would still have to pass the House. Final votes could come as soon as next week.
