Hurricane Melissa swept through Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba leaving 20-30 people dead and massive destruction.

In Jamaica, it was a Category 5 hurricane, reaching wind speeds of up to 185 mph.

The hurricane is now heading towards Bermuda, which will result in heavy moisture along the U.S. Northeast.

The National Guard has been ordered to create “Quick Action” forces in each state by early 2026 in order to rapidly respond to civil disturbances.

The units will be trained in crowd control and using non-lethal tools to be best equipped for necessary deployment.

While the Federal Shutdown continues, nearly 440,000 Minnesotans will lose access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, coming Nov. 1.

As a result, Minnesotan food shelves are hitting a record number of visits, and with benefits closed, there may gain serious strain on resources.
