St. Paul Mayor-elect Kaohly Her spoke on The Deep Dive on Thursday about her goals for the upcoming term and the challenges St. Paul faces. 

Her wants St. Paul residents to “remember we’re doing this together and to give me grace because I’m going to make mistakes and I might fail sometimes and that I’m going to need them to help pick me up and remind me so that we can all move forward together.”

The Trump administration says its plan to dismantle the Education Department offers a fix for the nation’s lagging academics — a solution that could free schools from the strictures of federal influence.

Yet to some school and state officials, the plan appears to add more bureaucracy, with no clear benefit for students who struggle with math or reading.

Without the department’s help answering complex funding questions, schools would have few options to clarify what can and can’t be paid for with federal money, said David Law, superintendent of Minnetonka Public Schools in Minnesota.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday that Ukraine has to confront the possibility of losing its dignity or risking the loss of a key partner as it figures out how to respond to a U.S. peace proposal to end Russia’s war with his country.

The U.S. plan contains many of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s longstanding demands, including Ukrainian territorial concessions, while offering limited security guarantees to Ukraine.
