Ukraine fired six American-supplied longer-range missiles at Russia’s Bryansk region, Moscow said Tuesday, in what would be Kyiv’s first use of the weapons inside Russia in 1,000 days of war.
The reported use of the Army Tactical Missile System, known as ATACMS, came as Russian President Vladimir Putin formally lowered the threshold for using nuclear weapons, opening the door to a potential nuclear response by Moscow to even a conventional attack by any nation supported by a nuclear power. That could include Ukrainian attacks backed by the U.S.
A Telegram channel affiliated with the Ukrainian military posted a video Tuesday that it says shows a U.S.-supplied ATACMS missile being fired from an undisclosed location in Ukraine. The Associated Press could not independently verify the date and location the video was filmed.
Northern California and the Pacific Northwest are bracing for what is expected to be a powerful storm, with heavy rain and winds set to pummel the region and potentially cause power outages and flash floods.
The Weather Prediction Center issued excessive rainfall risks beginning Tuesday and lasting through Friday as the strongest atmospheric river — long plumes of moisture stretching far over the Pacific Ocean — that California and the Pacific Northwest has seen this season bears down on the region. The storm system has intensified so quickly that it is considered a “ bomb cyclone,” explained Richard Bann, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center.
The areas that could see particularly severe rainfall as the large plume of moisture heads toward land will likely stretch from the south of Portland, Oregon, to the north of the San Francisco area, he explained.
The Tommie Triathlon club at the University of St. Thomas held it’s first practice on Nov. 4, which Club President, Matthew Higley said had a dozen members turn out, with more signed up on TommieLink. So far, the team has been holding practices almost every day — each dedicated to either running, lifting, or swimming — with informal bike practices planned separately due to the limited stationary bikes available in the Andersen Athletic and Recreation Complex.
The club has come a long way since its beginnings at the start of the semester, which mainly consisted of Higley floating the idea to acquaintances interested in working out — or, in some cases, anyone he saw wearing running shoes. Still due to the typically lengthy startup process, Tommie Triathlon will not be an official club sport until 2025, according to an email from Club Sports Director Kevin Manson.
