Before becoming Pope Leo XIV, Cardinal Robert Prevost presided over one of the most revolutionary reforms of Pope Francis’ pontificate by having women serve on the Vatican board that vets nominations for bishops.

But he also has said decisively that women cannot be ordained as priests, and despite having worked for years in Peru where women often lead church communities, seems noncommittal on whether women could ever serve in any ministerial capacity.

Nevertheless, the women who have worked closely with Prevost in recent years have praised his leadership style, ability to listen and respect for their opinions. In interviews with The Associated Press, they say they expect that as pope, Leo will continue to promote women in church governance positions, albeit with limits.

The R&B singer Cassie is being cross-examined after two days of testimony recounting tumultuous details of life with her ex-boyfriend, Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Prosecutors allege Combs used his fame and fortune to orchestrate an empire of exploitation, coercing women into abusive sex parties. His lawyers argue that all the sexual acts were consensual, and although he could be violent, he never veered into sex trafficking and racketeering. Combs has pleaded not guilty to racketeering conspiracy; sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion; and transportation to engage in prostitution.

St. Thomas announced a $25.2 million donation from an anonymous donor to the College of Arts and Sciences and the university’s athletic program at a ceremony Wednesday at Monahan Plaza.

University President Rob Vischer said that the donation helped complete fundraising for the Lee and Penny Anderson Arena, which is currently under construction. The donation will also go toward creating a Center for Disciplinary and Intercultural Education and creating a scholarship for female student athletes who major or minor in the College of Arts and Sciences.
