U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that a “whole civilization will die tonight” but said Iran still has time to capitulate ahead of a deadline set for 8 p.m. in Washington.

The American leader issued the stark threat Tuesday… about 12 hours ahead of his deadline for Iran to agree to a deal that includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz or face punishing strikes.

The Trump administration in late 2025 slashed the annual cap on refugee admissions to 7,500 for budget year 2026, down from the 125,000 cap set in 2024 by the Biden administration. That’s a historic low that will shut out thousands of global refugees from war and persecution, such as the victims of the Taliban repression in Afghanistan.

The new refugee cap, however, will mostly benefit white South Africans. The state department is building infrastructure to process 4,500 refugee applications per month from South Africans.

The U.N. security council is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a resolution aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz that has been repeatedly watered down because of opposition from Russia and China.

One-fifth of the world’s oil typically passes through the strait, and Iran’s stranglehold during the war has sent energy prices soaring.
