Pope Francis died yesterday on Easter Monday at 88. According to the Vatican, the Pope suffered a stroke that put him into a coma and led to heart failure.
The Pope’s death comes after months of respiratory complications. His last public appearance was Sunday in St. Peter’s Square, where he blessed thousands gathered for Easter Sunday.
The Pope is remembered for his emphasis on inclusion and concern for the poor that drew criticism from conservatives. His funeral will be celebrated in the next four to nine days, according to Vatican protocol.
Harvard University has sued the Trump administration to halt a freeze on more than 2 billion dollars in grants.
On April 11th, the Trump administration demanded changes related to its recent attacks on DEI programs. After Harvard President Alan Garber said the university would not comply with the order, billions of dollars in federal funding was frozen.
Finally, the U.S. Department of Education said it will resume its quote involuntary repayment of defaulted federal student loans.
Payments paused in 2020 as a response to the Covid pandemic will be collected beginning on May 5th through the Treasury Department’s offset program. An estimated 5.3 million borrowers will receive notices in the next two weeks and may face garnished wages.
