On Thursday, a federal judge allowed the Trump Administration to move forward with a requirement that everyone in the U.S. illegally must register with the federal government and carry documentation going into effect on Friday. This requirement could have far-reaching repercussions for immigrants across the country.

Judge Trevor Neil McFadden, sided with the Trump Administration, had argued that officials were simply enforcing a preexisting requirement for everyone in the country but isn’t an American citizen.

The Supreme Court on Thursday said President Trump’s administration must facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador, rejecting the administration’s emergency appeal.

Abrego Garcia is a Salvadoran citizen who had an immigration court order preventing his deportation to his native country over fears he would face persecution from local gangs.

The administration has conceded that it made a mistake in sending him to El Salvador, where he is being held in a notorious prison, but also argued that it no longer could do anything about it.

A helicopter crashed Thursday into the Hudson River just off Manhattan, authorities said. There were no immediate reports on injuries or fatalities.

The fire department said it received a helicopter report in the water at 2:17 p.m.

Videos posted on social media showed the aircraft mostly submerged, upside down in the water. The fire department said it had units on the scene performing rescue operations.
