A man set a bonfire using wooden pallets in New Jersey’s Pine Barrens and left them without fully extinguishing the blaze, sparking a quick-moving wildfire with smoke affecting air quality in the New York City area, authorities said Thursday.

Law enforcement said they used a GPS to plot the origin of the fire and determined the cause was a bonfire that hadn’t been put out.

The Rev. Chris Collins led a prayer service to remember the pontiff Tuesday in the Anderson Student Center.

St. Thomas President Rob Vischer also spoke at the ceremony.

Vischer said that the pope represented St. Thomas’ culture of encounter, which he defined as a calling to respect and care for people of all backgrounds, not just Christians.

The World Food Program says its food stocks in Gaza have run out under Israel’s nearly 8-week-old blockade, ending a main source of sustenance for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in the territory.

Israel cut off entry of all food, fuel, medicine and other supplies to Gaza on March 2, saying it aimed to pressure Hamas to release hostages it still holds. Rights groups have called the blockade a “starvation tactic” and a potential war crime.
