The St. Thomas football team’s starting quarterback Tak Tateoka announced his intent to transfer from St. Thomas on Nov. 27, via his personal X account.
Tateoka finished his sophomore season with 1,286 yards passing, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Tateoka wrote that he was “thankful” for his time with the program in his announcement, and declined any further comment.
The quarterback position was often in flux for St. Thomas this season. Tateoka started the season, but sophomore Michael Rostberg and junior Amari Powell each had opportunities in the backfield as well. The Tommies have two first-year quarterbacks on the roster: Phillip Jones II and Ryan Jackson.
The team ended with Tateoka as the starter for the final six games of the season.
The six-foot-three, 207 pound quarterback was originally recruited out of Waukesha South High School in Wisconsin. He committed to St. Thomas, his only Division I offer, over D-II schools including Southwest Minnesota State, Concordia St. Paul and Minnesota State.
